NFL Week Seventeen - Pittsburgh Steelers vs Miami Dolphins
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-03 17:00:53
Pittsburgh travel to Miami today in the final game of the regular season for both teams. Neither team has a great chance to make the play-offs but Pittsburgh are the closer of the two at 8-7. There are five teams in the AFC with the same record and two at 7-8, one of which is Miami, and either team would need to win and have a lot of other results to go their way if they are to overtake New York and Denver, who currently lead the Wild Card race.
The Steelers have been made favourites for the game on the money line at -180 (bet $180 to win $100 profit), leaving the Dolphins as underdogs at +165 (bet $100 to win $165 profit). Betting on the money line so far has seen 68% of action backing Pittsburgh to avoid an upset today.
The point spread for the game has been set at three points, making the Steelers favourites at -3 points and giving the Dolphins a handicap of +3 points. Betting against the spread has seen the large majority of money behind the visitors, with 80% of action backing the Steelers to beat the spot. Last time the sides met they were indeed separated by three points, with Pittsburgh coming out on top 3-0.
The Steelers have been better on the field so far this season than they have against the spread, winning at 8-7 but only covering 5-9-1. Miami, on the other hand, have slightly improved on their 7-8 record on the field by covering the spread at 8-7.
Neither side is given a great chance of winning the Super Bowl but Pittsburgh are the more likely of two, priced at 125/1 to retain their title this season.
