NFL Week Fifteen - New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills
By Matt Knowles on 2009-12-20 17:00:19
New England travel to Buffalo in week fifteen of the NFL season looking to take a big step towards securing the AFC East. The Patriots have won the last twelve meeting between the two teams and would love a thirteenth tonight, as last week`s 20-10 win over Carolina saw them improve to 8-5 and move into pole position in the division. Buffalo can no longer realistically make the play-offs and at 5-8 their loftiest ambition for this season is to win their remaining games and finish with an even record.
The Patriots go into the game as favourites on the money line at -320 (bet $320 to win $100 profit), leaving Buffalo as underdogs at +280 (bet $100 to win $280 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been in favour of the favourites, with 63% of money backing the Patriots to avoid an upset today.
The points spread for the game has been set at seven points, making New England favourites at -7 points and giving the Bills a handicap of +7 points. Betting against the spread has so far been overwhelming in favour of New England and 93% of action has backed the visitors to win by more than the required touchdown. Last time the sides met, however, it was significantly closer than that as New England edged out Buffalo 25-24.
Buffalo have managed to slightly improve on their poor on-field record of 5-8 to cover the spread at a rate of 7-6. New England, however, have covered at a poor 6-7 despite their positive winning record of 8-5.
The Over/Under total for the game has been set at 40.5 points and betting so far has seen 60% of money backing the Over. However, this seems difficult to explain, as the teams combined have recorded fifteen Unders, ten Overs and one Even in their twenty-six decisions so far this season.
The Patriots are no longer considered the biggest threat in the league but have still been made fifth-favourites for the Super Bowl this year at 12/1.
