NFL Week Fifteen - Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints
By Matt Knowles on 2009-12-20 00:20:18
Dallas travel to unbeaten New Orleans tonight trying to get back to winning ways after dropping their last two, most recently falling to 8-5 after losing 20-17 last week at home to San Diego. New Orleans have had no problem winning games this season and are perfect at 13-0, their most recent triumph coming 26-23 over the Falcons last week. The Saints, along with the Colts, are attempting to become the first team ever to win the Super Bowl after going unbeaten throughout the regular season.
New Orleans, as expected, are favourites on the money line at -333 (bet $333 to win $100 profit), leaving Dallas as underdogs at +280 (bet $100 to win $280 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been split fairly evenly, with 55% of money backing the Cowboys to deliver an upset and break the Saint`s fantastic winning streak.
The points spread for the game has been set at 7.5 points, making New Orleans favourites at +7.5 and giving the Cowboys a much-needed handicap of +7.5 points. Betting against the spread so far has focused mainly on the Saints and 72% of action as backed them to win by more than the required margin. Last time the teams met New Orleans did indeed win quite emphatically, thrashing Dallas 42-17 in the 2006 season.
Both teams have performed better on the field than they have against the spread, with Dallas covering at a poor 6-7 despite winning at 8-3. New Orleans, while winning at a perfect rate of 13-0, have not been as effective at covering the spread, beating the spot in only eight of those wins.
The Over/Under total for the game has been set at 53.5 points and betting so far has seen 78% of money backing the Over. However, this seems difficult to explain, as the teams combined have split at 13-13 on the Over/Under in their combined twenty-six decisions.
Tonight`s hosts are favourites for the Super Bowl this year and are priced at 11/4 after their string of wins and impressive performances. Dallas have been slipping in recent weeks and despite their strong record are now 40/1 for glory this year.
