NFL Thursday Night football - Indianapolis Colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars
By Matt Knowles on 2009-12-18 00:30:45
Indianapolis travel to Jacksonville tonight hoping to extend their unbeaten run which has seen them win twenty-two regular season games in a row. Peyton Manning`s team are looking to become the first team in history to have a perfect season and finish it off with a Super Bowl triumph. Jacksonville are very much in the hunt for a wild card spot but last week`s 14-10 loss to the Dolphins saw them fall to 7-6 and they will need a win tonight to stay at the front of the pack.
The Colts go into the game as slight favourites on the money line at -170 (bet $170 to win $100 profit), leaving Jacksonville as underdogs at +155 (bet $100 to win $155 profit). Betting on the money line so far has mainly been on the Colts and 69% of money has backed them to remain unbeaten after tonight`s game.
The points spread for the game has been set at three points, making the Colts favourites at -3 points and giving the Jags a handicap of +3. Betting against the spread has been overwhelming in favour of the visitors with 85% of money behind a Colts win by more than three. Last time the sides met, however, in week one of the current season, the Colts could only win by two points, and that was on their home turf.
Both teams have been more successful on the field this season than they have against the spread, with Jacksonville a poor 5-8 despite winning at 7-6, having failed in seven of their last nine attempts. The Colts have found it impossible to cover as regularly as they have won and they have beaten the spot in only nine of their thirteen games so far.
The Over/Under total for the game has been set at 43 points and so far 54% of betting has backed the Over and this seems about right as the teams combined have split perfectly at 13-13 in their twenty-six decisions so far.
The Colts have been vying with the Saints all season to be favourites for the Super Bowl and are currently second favourites at 3/1, with every chance of glory this year. Nobody is really looking past Indianapolis or New Orleans this year, but the Jaguars are still in with a chance, albeit slim, priced at 200/1.
