NFL Week Fourteen betting - New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons
By Matt Knowles on 2009-12-13 16:45:37
The unbeaten New Orleans Saints look to continue their remarkable run as they travel to NFC rivals Atlanta in week fourteen of the NFL season. Last week the Saints came from behind to overcome the Washington Redskins and remain perfect while their opponents tonight rolled over at home and were crushed 34-7 by Philadelphia, with ex-Falcon Michael Vick rubbing salt in the wounds with a stunning performance. That defeat saw them fall to 6-6 and they need a miraculous win tonight to resurrect their playoff hopes.
New Orleans are, as expected, comfortable favourites for the game on the money line at -500 (bet $500 to win $100 profit), leaving Atlanta as underdogs at +450 (bet $100 to win $500 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been fairly even with 51% of action behind the favourites to continue their perfect season.
The points spread for the game has been set at 10.5 points, making the Saints favourites at -10.5 points and giving the Falcons a handicap of +10.5 points. Betting against the spread so far has been mainly in favour of the visitors and 70% of money has backed them to cover the fairly large spread. Last time the teams met was in New Orleans in week eight of this season but the Saints did not win by 10.5 or more as they came out on top 35-27.
Atlanta have performed slightly better this season against the spread than they have on the field, covering in seven of their twelve games while winning at only 6-6. New Orleans could not improve on their perfect record on the field and have failed to beat the spot in four of their twelve victories this season.
The Over/Under line for the game has been set at a high 50 points and this explains why 80% of money has so far backed the Under. However, both teams have recorded seven Overs and five Unders in their twelve decisions on the Over/Under total.
New Orleans are favourites to win the Super Bowl this year after a string of impressive performance and are priced at 11/4 for glory this year. Atlanta`s challenge is seen as all but over by the bookmakers and they are priced at 500/1.
