NFL Week Twelve betting - Carolina Panthers at New York Jets
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-29 16:55:50
Carolina travel to New York in week twelve of the NFL season for a game that sees two teams desperate to improve on their disappointing records that have all but eliminated them from the postseason already. New York need to get back to winning ways after losing their last three games to fall to 4-6, last week losing 31-14 in New England. Carolina have been inconsistent all season and last week`s defeat to Miami left them at 4-6 as well.
New York are favourites for the game on the money line at -162 (bet $162 to win $100 profit), leaving Carolina as underdogs at +150 (bet $100 to win $150 profit). Betting so far on the money line has seen the vast majority of money behind the favourites, with 86% backing the Jets to return to winning ways.
The point spread for the game has been set at three points, making the Jets favourites at -3 points and giving the Panthers a handicap of +3 points. Betting against the spread so far has seen 58% of money backing the Panthers to cover the spot tonight. Last time the teams met they did come out on top, winning 30-3 in the 2005 season.
Both teams have so far covered the spread at the same rate as they have won, with the Panthers covering in their defeat to Buffalo but failing in their win over Washington. New York have covered in every win and failed in every loss.
The Over/Under for the game is set at 41.5 points and betting so far has seen 60% of money backing the Under. This seems strange as the Panthers have split at 5-5 and New York have gone 5-4-1.
Neither side is any longer considered a threat for the Super Bowl this year wit the Panthers at 300/1 and the Jets at 500/1.
