NFL Week Twelve betting - Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-29 16:50:37
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Atlanta in week twelve of the NFL season and the visitors will be looking to improve on their pathetic record this season of one win and nine defeats, the most recent of which came last week as they were rolled over 38-7 after taking an early lead against the unbeaten Saints. Atlanta also lost last week but have been much better than the Bucs and will look to earn a winning record by improving on their current 5-5.
Atlanta are big favourites for the game on the money line at -550 (bet $550 to win $100 profit), leaving the Bucs as underdogs at +475 (bet $100 to win $475 profit). Betting on the money line so far has seen the mast majority of money backing the visitors with 97% of action behind Tampa Bay.
The point spread has been set at twelve points for the game, making Atlanta favourites at -12 points and giving the Bucs a handicap of +12 points. Betting against the spread has been only slightly in favour of the underdogs with 54% of money going their way. Last time the teams met was in December last year and Atlanta came out on top, but another 13-10 win tonight would not be good enough to cover the spread.
The Falcons have performed better against the spread this season than they have on the field, covering at 7-3 while winning at only 5-5. Tampa Bay have also slightly improved on their poor on-field record of 1-9 by covering the spread at 3-7 after beating the spot in their win over Green Bay and in defeats to Miami and Washington.
The Over/Under for the game is set at 46 points and so far 55% of money has backed the Over. This seems reasonable as the two teams combined have recorded thirteen Overs in their twenty decisions.
Neither team is seen as having a realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl this year with the Falcons at 125/1 and Tampa Bay at an NFL worst 2000/1.
