NFL Thanksgiving Day football betting - New York Giants at Denver Broncos
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-27 00:05:24
The late game this Thanksgiving sees a game between two teams whose seasons so far can be divided into two halves. New York won their opening five games before going on a four game losing streak which ended only last week as they beat Atlanta 34-31 to improve to 6-4. Denver won their first six but since then have capitulated and lost all four games since their bye week, getting crushed 32-3 by San Diego last week to fall to 6-4.
New York are favourites for the game on the money line at -270 (bet $270 to win $100 profit), leaving Denver as underdogs at +250 (bet $100 to win $250 profit). Betting on the money line so far has largely been in favour of the hosts, with 89% of money backing them to deliver an upset tonight.
The points spread for the game has been set at 6 points, making New York favourites at -6 and giving the Broncos a handicap of +6 points. Betting against the spread has so far been fairly even, with 53% of money backing the Broncos to cover the spread. Last time the teams met was in 2005 and the Giants came out on top, but the margin of victory was narrow.
Denver have covered in every win and failed to do so in very defeat so far this season and so have been as successful against the spot as they have on the field. New York, however, have been far better at winning games, standing at 6-4, than they have at covering the spread, which they have only managed to do at 3-7.
The Over/Under for the game has been set at 42.5 points and betting so far has seen 75% of money in favour of the Over. This is interesting, because while New York have recorded seven Overs in their ten decisions so far, Denver have recorded eight Unders in the same period.
The Giants are given an outside chance of mounting a challenge for the Super Bowl this year but are not among the favourites, priced at 33/1. Denver`s hopes of glory this year have plummeted after their recent run of form and they are now as big as 125/1 for the championship.
