Chicago travel to San Francisco tonight to face the 49ers in a game both teams need to win. The visitors lost 41-21 at home to Arizona last week and fell to 4-4, while their hosts also lost, going down 34-27 to the Titans, who were 1-6 before the game, to fall to 3-5 in their fourth defeat in a row.
San Francisco are favourites for the game on the money line at -165 (bet $165 to win $100 profit), leaving the Bears as underdogs at +155 (bet $100 to win $155 profit). Betting so far on the money line has seen 67% of money backing Chicago to hand the Niners a fifth straight loss.
The point spread for tonight`s game is set at three points, making the hosts favourites at -3 points and giving the Bears a +3 point handicap as underdogs. So far, betting against the spread has been 74% behind San Francisco. Last time the teams met, however, Chicago crushed tonight`s host 41-10 in week eight of the 2006 season.
The 49ers have performed much better this season against the spread than they have on the field, covering at 5-2-1 compared while winning at only 3-5. The Bears have covered in every win and failed in every loss and are 4-4 against the spot this season.
The Over/Under for tonight`s game is set at 43.5 points, with 86% of betting so far in favour of the Over. This majority seems difficult to explain, however, as both teams have four Overs and four Unders in their eight decisions so far.
Both teams have seen their odds for this year`s Super Bowl drift due to their poor form and are now seen as outsiders, with the Bears priced at 100/1 and the 49ers even longer at 200/1.
