NFL Week Nine betting - Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions

Seattle travel to Detroit as two of the league`s worst teams go head to head in week nine of the NFL season. The Seahawks lost 38-17 to Dallas last week, falling to 2-5, and desperately need a win to get their season back on track. Detroit have an even worse record than their opponents, lying bottom of their division at 1-6 and last week losing 17-10 to the equally poor St Louis Rams.
Seattle are heavy favourites on the money line for this game despite their losing record, and are -500 (bet $500 to win $100 profit) to add to the Lions` misery. Detroit are +450 (bet $100 to win $450) to record an unlikely victory tonight. Betting so far has been strongly in favour of the underdogs, with 89% of money backing them to upset Seattle and get only their second win of the season.
The point spread for this game is set at 10 points, making the Seahawks favourites at -10 points and the Lions big underdogs with a +10 handicap. In betting so far, 85% of money has backed Seattle to cover the big spread and win by more than ten points. Last time the two sides met, however, neither f them even scored ten points as The Seahawks beat the Lions 9-6 in the first day of the 2006 season.
Detroit have been slightly better this year against the spread than they have on the field, going 2-5 instead of 1-6. Seattle have covered in every win and failed in every loss to cover at 2-5. The Seahawks have won both the last games between the sides but have covered at 1-1.
The Over/Under for today`s game is set at 43 points and so far 71% of betting has been on the Under. This seems unfounded, as the teams together have seven Unders and seven Overs in fourteen total decisions.
Neither team is given a realistic hope of winning the Super Bowl by the bookmakers this year. Seattle are a huge 250/1 and Detroit are an incredible 2500/1.
