NFL Week Nine betting - San Diego Chargers vs New York Giants
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-08 20:00:45
San Diego travel to New York in week nine of the NFL season to face the Giants, who are in desperate need of a win. New York have lost three games in a row after winning their first five games of the season and last week rolled over in Philadelphia, losing 40-17 to fall to 5-3. The Chargers were also unconvincing last time out, beating the Raiders 24-16 while hoping for a much greater margin, improving to 4-3.
New York are favourites for the game on the money line at -210 (bet $210 to win $100 profit), leaving the Chargers as underdogs at +200 (bet $100 to win $200 profit). Betting on the money line has so far favoured the hosts, with 61% of money backing them to end their losing streak tonight.
The point spread has been set at five points for the game, making the Giants favourites at -5 points and the Chargers underdogs with a +5 point handicap. Betting so far against the spread has so far seen 70% of action placed on New York. However, last time the teams met San Diego comfortably beat the Giants, with 45-23 in week three of the 2005 season.
Both teams have so far performed better on the field than they have against the spread, with the Giants covering at a rate of 3-5, against their on-field record of 5-3, and San Diego covering at 2-5, despite winning four games out of seven this season.
The Over/Under for tonight`s game has been set at 47.5 points, with 91% of betting so far being on the Over. This seems justified, as the Giants have finished Over in six of their eight decisions, while the Chargers are 4-2-1.
While neither team is among the favourites for the Super Bowl this year, both are in with a chance, according to the bookmakers, with the Giants priced at 22/1 and the Chargers at 28/1.
