NFL Week Nine betting - Arizona Cardinals vs Chicago Bears
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-08 17:05:04
Arizona and Chicago come into this game with identical records as the Cardinals go on the road to face the Bears in week nine of the NFL season. Last week`s 34-21 defeat to Carolina ended a three-game winning streak for Arizona which saw them fall to 4-3. Chicago were more successful last week, beating Cleveland 30-6 to climb to improve to 4-3 and snap a two game losing streak of their own.
Home advantage means the Bears go into this game as slight favourites at -140 (bet $140 to win $100 profit), leaving the Cardinals as underdogs at +130 (bet $100 to win £130 profit). Betting on the money line so far has seen 88% of money in favour of a surprise Cardinals win.
The point spread for the game is set at 3, making the hosts favourites at -3 points and giving the Cardinals a handicap of +3 points. Betting so far against the spread has also been mostly behind the underdogs, with 68% of money backing the Cardinals to get back to winning ways.
Both teams have covered the spread at the same rate as they have won so far this season, covering in every win and failing in every loss. The teams have only played twice since 2003 and the Bears have won both failed to cover in the most recent meeting.
The Over/Under for this game is set at 44.5 points and so far 96% of betting has been on the Over. However, this is difficult to explain given that both teams have leaned towards the Under, with nine Unders and five Overs in their combined fourteen decisions.
Neither team is ranked among the favourites for this year`s Super Bowl but the Cardinal`s, at 40/1, are seen as stronger than the Bears, who are at 66/1.
