NFL Week Nine betting - Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-08 17:00:24
Kansas City travel to Jacksonville today looking for only their second win of the season. The Chiefs have made a dreadful start and are now 1-6. However, they have had a bye week to recover and could come back stronger than they were in their last match, when they lost 37-7 to San Diego. Jacksonville made a bright start to the season but have faltered recently, losing 41-0 to a Seahawks team that is 2-5 and then last week 30-13 to the 1-6 Titans, falling to a losing 3-4.
Jacksonville are still, however, favourites to win this game on the money line at -270 (bet $270 to win $100 profit), leaving the Chiefs as underdogs at +240 (bet $100 to win $240 profit). So far in betting on the money line 95% of money has backed the Chiefs to score an upset and beat the Jags.
The point spread for the game is set at 6.5 points, making the Jags favourites at -6.5 points and giving the Chiefs a handicap of +6.5 points. Betting against the spread so far has also been in favour of the Jags, with 88% of money backing them to cover the spread. Last time the teams met was in week five of the 2007 season and Jacksonville took it 17-7.
Jacksonville so far have been covering the spread at the same rate as they have been winning, at 3-4. They covered in the loss to the the Colts in week one but failed to do so in their win over the Rams. The Chiefs have slightly improved on their on-field record of 1-6 by covering at 2-5, as they covered in their defeat to Dallas in week 5.
The Over/Under for the game has been set at 42 points with 59% of betting on the Under so far. However, the teams have leaned towards the Over, with 4-3 in Jacksonville`s seven decisions and 3-2-2 for the Chiefs.
The bookmakers do not give either team any chance of winning this year`s Super Bowl, but Jacksonville, at 350/1, are more likely than the Chiefs, who are priced at a massive 2500/1.
