NFL Week Eight betting preview - Jacksonville Jaguars vs Tennessee Titans
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-01 19:20:35
Tennessee will look to get their season up and running with a win after going 0-6 so far this season, last time out getting mauled 59-0 by the New England Patriots. The Titans have had a very poor start to the year after starting 10-0 last season and finishing with the best record in the league. Jacksonville also had a bye last week but have not had as much thinking to do, standing at 3-3.
Despite the teams` respective records, Tennessee go into the game as favourites on the money line at -165 (bet $165 to win $100 profit), leaving Jacksonville as underdogs at +155 (bet $100 to win $155 profit). So far 90% of betting on the money line has backed the home favourites.
The point spread is set at 3 points, the value of a field goal. The Titans are favourites at -3 while the Jaguars will be given a +3 point advantage as underdogs. Last time the sides met the visitors need no such advantage, comfortable beating the Titans 37-17 in week four of this season. So far 70% of money on the point spread has backed the Titans.
Neither team has performed well against the spread so far this year, but the Titans have at least bettered their on-field performance from 0-6 to 1-5 after covering in their first week defeat to the Steelers. Jacksonville, while an average 3-3 on the field, are a poor 2-4 against the spread. However, they have covered on two of their three attempts as an underdog.
The Over/Under is set at 44.5 points, with 54% of money backing the Over. This is to be expected, as Tennessee have three Overs and three Unders so far, while Jacksonville have leaned towards the Over at 4-2.
Neither team is fancied to win the Super Bowl this year, with the Jaguars at 150/1 and Tennessee at a huge 600/1 after their dreadful start. Jeff Fisher`s team will hope to put that behind them tonight and get off the mark against their rivals.
