NFL Week Eight betting preview - Cleveland Browns vs Chicago Bears
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-01 16:20:15
Cleveland travel to Chicago in week eight trying to turn their season around after an awful start to the season that saw them fall to 1-6 after losing 31-3 to Green Bay last week at home. Chicago can boast a better record, at 3-3, but may have equally low morale after losing their last game 45-10 in Cincinnati.
The hosts are heavy favourites for the game at -750 (bet $750 to win $100 profit), leaving the Browns as big underdogs at +600 (bet $100 to win $600 profit). So far, 84% of betting on the money line has backed the  Browns to score a big upset today.
The point spread for today`s game is set at a large 13 points, making the Bears huge favourites at -13 and the Bears underdogs at +13 points. Betting so far on the point spread has been the exact opposite of betting on the money line so far, and 84% of money against the spread has backed the Bears.
Despite their record on the field of 1-6, the Browns have covered at a rate of 3-3. The Bears have covered in every win and failed in every loss so far to stand at 3-3, the same as their win-loss record. Last time the sides met was in week five of the 2005 season and the Browns took it 20-10, covering the spread.
The Over/Under for today`s game is set at 40 points and so far 72% of betting has been on the Over, although the Over-Under records of both teams are fairly equal, Chicago at 3-3 and Cleveland at 3-4.
Neither team has been given any realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl this year, with the Bears a long-shot at 66/1 and Cleveland a stratospheric 2000/1.
