NFL Week Seven betting preview - San Diego Chargers vs Kansas City Chiefs
By Matt Knowles on 2009-10-25 15:15:30
Week seven of the NFL season sees the San Diego Charges travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. Neither team has had the start they had hoped for, with the Chargers losing last Monday to Denver and falling to 2-3 and Kansas City getting their first win of the season over the Washington Redskins, taking them to an unimpressive 1-6.
San Diego are favourites for this game on the money line at -210 (bet $210 to win $100 profit), leaving the Chiefs as underdogs at +200 (bet $100 to win $200 profit). So far 86% of betting on the money line has been on the Chargers, who won the last contest between these two teams 22-21 in week 15 of 2008.
The point spread for tonight is set at 5 points, making the Chargers favourites at -5 points and giving the Chiefs a +5 handicap. So far betting on the point spread has been very one-sided and people seem to think Kansas`s first win of the season was no real sign of improvement, with 96% betting on San Diego.
So far this season Kansas City have been slightly better against the spread (2-4) than they have on the field (1-5). This is a trend continued from last season when they went 2-14 on the field but 8-8 against the spread. The Chargers on the the other hand have gone 2-3 on the field but 1-4 against the spread. Last year the Chargers beat the Chiefs twice but failed to cover in both victories.
The Over/Under for this game has been set at 44 points and 96% of betting so far has been on the Over, and this could be because the Chargers have gone Over in four of their five games this season.
Neither teams is heavily fancied for the Super Bowl this year, which is unsurprising looking at the teams` records, but San Diego is deemed far more likely at 40/1 than the Chiefs at a hopeless 1500/1.
