NFL Week Five Betting - Atlanta Falcons vs San Franciso 49ers
By Matt Knowles on 2009-10-11 20:15:06
Atlanta travel to San Fransisco to face the 49ers in week five of the NFL season. The visitors have just come off a bye week and currently sit second in the NFC South at 2-1. San Francisco top the NFC West at 3-1 and last week slaughtered the Rams 35-0.
The home side are slight favourites for the game at -130 (bet $130 to win $100 profit), leaving the Falcons as underdogs at +120 (bet $100 to win $120 profit). So far 72% of betting on the money line has been on the Falcons. Last time the teams met the Falcons came out on top 20-16 in week nine of the 2007 season.
The point spread for the game has been set at 2.5 points, with the 49ers giving them up as favourites at -2.5. The Falcons are slight underdogs at +2.5. So far 63% of betting has been on the favourites on the point spread.
San Francisco are on excellent form against the spread, at 4-0 this season and 9-2-1 in their last twelve. The Falcons have covered the spread in both home games, which they won, but failed in their only road game so far in New England. It is worth noting that the Falcons have just come off a bye, as teams coming off bye weeks went 18-14 against the spread last season, 20-12 the year before that and 19-13 in 2006.
The Over/Under is set at 41% for this game. So far 71% of betting has been on the Over. However, five of the seven decisions these teams have been involved in so far this season have finished under. Also, the only overs came on the road for the 49ers and at home for the Falcons.
The bookmakers seem to think the two teams have very similar chances of winning the Super Bowl this year. Both sides are priced at 33/1 for this year`s title.
