NFL Week Five Betting - Houston Texans vs Arizona Cardinals
By Matt Knowles on 2009-10-11 20:13:45
The AFC South`s Houston Texans go to Arizona to face the NFC West`s Cardinals. The visitors have had a mixed start to the season and are 2-2 but should be on a high after dominating the Raiders 29-6 last week. The Cardinals have had a losing start and are 1-2 and last week were on a bye.
On the money line, the Cardinals are favourites for the game at -210 (bet $210 to win $100 profit). The Texans, despite having a better record are underdogs at +200 (bet $100 to win $200 profit). So far 91% of betting on the money line has been on the Texans.
The point spread has been set at 5.5 points, making the Texans favourites at -5.5 and the Cardinals underdogs at +5.5 points. So far 59% of betting on the point spread has been on the hosts.
The teams have only met once before, in week fifteen of the 2005 season, and in that instance the Texans won 30-19. So far this year both teams have covered the spread at the same rate as they have won. However, it is worth noting that the Cardinals have just had a bye, and teams last year covered at 18-14 after a bye week, and before that at 20-12 and at 19-13 in 2006.
The Over/Under is set at 50.5 points for the game. So far 89% of money has been on the Over, and last year the Cardinals were Over in fourteen of twenty games.
Neither team is among the favourites to win this year`s Super Bowl, according to the bookmakers. Arizona are priced at 50/1 and Houston are 80/1 to win the title.
