NFL Week Five Betting - Cleveland Browns vs Buffalo Bills
By Matt Knowles on 2009-10-11 16:00:56
Week five of the NFL season sees a game between two teams who have not started the season well at all. Cleveland, who are 0-4, lost last week in overtime against their rivals the Cincinnati Bengals 23-10 and this time travel to Buffalo. The Bills are 1-3 and last week lost heavily 38-10 to Miami.
The home side are favourites for the game on the money line and are priced at -250 (bet $250 to win $100 profit). Cleveland are underdogs and are +240 (bet $100 to win $240) to finally earn a win this year. Betting on the money line has so far favoured the Browns and 74% of money has been staked on the visitors.
The linemakers have set the point spread at 6 points, making the Bills favourites at -6 points and leaving the Browns with +6 points as underdogs. Unlike the money line, betting with the spread has leant towards the favourites and 72% of money so far has backed Buffalo.
In the last two meetings between these two teams, Cleveland has won and covered the spread, last year winning 29-27. Last season the Bills at home failed to cover in six of their eight games. Cleveland have now failed to cover in eight of their last ten games, but as a visitor on artificial turf they have now covered in seven of their last eleven. Both teams are slightly better against the spread than they are straight-up this year, with Cleveland 1-3 and Buffalo 2-2.
The Over/Under is set at 40.5 points and so far 73% of money has been placed on the Over. This seems reasonable because in the eight games played this year involving these teams five have finished Over.
Neither team is given much chance by the bookmakers of winning the Super Bowl this year, with the Bills a huge 364/1 and Cleveland as large as 1000/1, the joint-worst team in the NFL.
