NFL Week Five Football Betting - Oakland Raiders vs New York Giants

Oakland travel East to face 2008 Super Bowl Champions the New York Giants in week five of the NFL season. Oakland have not had the best start, falling to 1-3 after getting beaten 29-6 in Houston last week. The Giants, however, have had a perfect start, climbing to 4-0 last Sunday beating Kansas City 27-16.

New York are very heavy favourites on the money line at -1000 (bet $1000 to win $100 profit), making Oakland big underdogs at +800 (bet $100 to win $800 profit). So far the money line betting has been fairly even and 55% of money has been on the Giants. Last time the two sides met New York won 30-21 on New Year`s Eve 2005.

The point spread has been set at a massive 15 points, making the Giants favourites at -15 and the Raiders underdogs at +15. Betting so far has mainly been on the favourites, with 71% of money backing them to cover the point spread.

While the Giants have won all four games this season, they are only 2-2 against the spread. Both covers have, however, come at home and including last season they are now 8-3 against the spread when not travelling. Oakland at 1-3 are also an even 2-2 against the spread.

The Over/Under for the game is set at 39 points. So far 63% of money has been on the under, which is not surprising if we only take the Raiders record, as they have been Under in three of their four games this season. However, the Giants have been Over in three of their four so far, and it seems difficult to predict.

New York are second favourites to win the Super Bowl at 8/1. Oakland are looked on less favourably by the bookmakers, and they are priced at 500/1.
