PMU
The PMU is the French tote system that is used to place bets on French horseracing. On-course bookmakers are banned in France and the horseracing industry receives a generous percentage of revenue from the PMU, which explains why there is more prize money for races that take place in France. In 2010 the PMU began a sports betting service in conjunction with Irish betting operator Paddy Power, when the betting markets were opened up.
