Barclays Premier League: Manchester United vs Wigan Athletic Odds and Betting Preview

MANCHESTER, UK - Manchester United host Wigan at Old Trafford as they look to turn up the heat on Chelsea and Arsenal, who both sit above United in the table. Manchester United are favourites to win today, priced at 1/4 (bet £4 to make £1 profit) with Betfred. A draw is priced at 6/1 on Betfair and a win for Wigan can be backed at best odds of 16/1 with Victor Chandler.
In the total goals market, over 2.5 goals is priced at 4/7 on Paddy Power and under 2.5 goals is best priced at 6/5 with Bet365.
Manchester United are bolstered by the news that Wayne Rooney may return on Saturday but is likely to only start on the  bench if at all. They will also look to history for comfort as Manchester United have won all 11 of their previous games against Wigan, including 10 Premier League matches plus the 2006 League Cup final.
Last weekend`s Villa Park comeback may have preserved Manchester United`s eight-month unbeaten run, but yet another away draw means they are under increased pressure to claim maximum points on home turf.
The Red Devils have shared the points in six of their seven league games away from Old Trafford this season, and were arguably fortunate to avoid defeat at Villa, Sunderland, Fulham and Bolton.
Despite the uncertainty over his fitness, Rooney is the bookies favourite to open the scoring, priced at 10/3 with Bet365. In the same market, Berbatov is priced at 4/1 with Coral, Macheda is priced at 5/1 with 888 Sport, Nani is quoted at best odds of 6/1 with Sky Bet and Hugo Rodallega is Wigan`s best bet as a 14/1 chance with Bet365.
In the correct score market, a 2-0 win for Manchester United is priced at 11/2 with Victor Chandler, a 1-0 win for Ferguson`s men is priced at 15/2 on Betfair and a 1-1 draw is priced at 12/1 with 888 Sport. A goalless draw is priced at 16/1 with Coral and a 1-0 win for Wigan is priced at 43/1 on Betfair.
Inconsistent Wigan cannot be written off - while they were thumped 6-0 at Chelsea in August, they also caused a major surprise by winning at Tottenham a week later. Roberto Martinez`s men have climbed out of the relegation zone after taking four points from home games against Liverpool and West Brom.
