Barclays Premier League: Sunderland vs Manchester United Odds and Betting Preview

SUNDERLAND, UK - Sunderland face a tough challenge when they host Manchester United this afternoon in the Barclays Premier League. Manchester United come into the game off the back of a mid-week Champions League win away at Valencia. The Red Devils are favourites for today`s encounter, priced at 8/11 (bet £11 to make £8 profit) with Paddy Power. A draw is priced at 13/5 with Boylesports and Sunderland can be backed at a price of 9/2 with Betfred.
In the over/under market, under 2.5 goals is priced at 4/5 with Totesport and over 2.5 goals is priced at 5/6 with Ladbrokes.
United will be wary of Sunderland`s impressive form against big clubs and the Black Cats have earned creditable draws away to Liverpool and at home to Arsenal, and they took all three points when they hosted Manchester United`s fierce rivals Manchester City back in August.
Wayne Rooney didn`t travel to Valencia, and the extra rest makes him favourite to open the scoring tonight, priced at 4/1 with Victor Chandler. In the same market, Berbatov is priced at 9/2 with Sky Bet, Javier Hernandez can be found  at best odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes and Darren Bent is a 7/1 chance with Stan James.
Despite their impressive form against big sides, Sunderland have faltered in the rest of their games and find themselves in eleventh place in the league. Last weekend Manchester United failed to fully capitalise on slip ups from Chelsea and Arsenal as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bolton. That point still meant they were able to climb above Arsenal in the table and now lie in second place, three points behind Chelsea.
In the correct score market, a 1-1 draw is priced at 13/2 with Sky Bet, a 1-0 win for Ferguson`s men is priced at 6/1 with William Hill and a 2-0 win for United is best priced at 8/1 with Betfair. A goalless draw is priced at 9/1 with Boylesports and a 1-0 victory for Sunderland is a 12/1 chance with Paddy Power.
This fixture will always have extra resonance for Bruce, given his status as an Old Trafford legend. But in 15 attempts since moving into management, he is yet to get one over his former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson. This Red Devils team seem to lack the menace of previous incarnations and they remain without an away win in the league so far this season. Given that they also endured a gruelling midweek match in Spain against Valencia, Bruce must fancy his chances of finally breaking his duck.
Manchester United are currently second in the Barclays Premier League, three points behind Chelsea, and they are priced at 11/4 with Sky Bet to win the league. Sunderland are currently eleventh in the table and they are priced at 13/8 with Victor Chandler to finish in the top ten this season.
