BIRMINGHAM, UK – Aston Villa host Wigan Athletic on Saturday at Villa Park in a fixture between two sides desperate for a Premier League win. Aston Villa are one of four teams unbeaten in the league, but have only won one game in their six, as the other five ended in frustrating draws. Alex McLeish will hope that his team can secure three points at home against Wigan, who have lost their last three games on the trot. Aston Villa are firm favourites to win the match, and are available to do so at best odds of 4/6 (bet £6 to make £4 profit) with Ladbrokes. For those punters expecting an upset, Wigan can be backed at 5/1 with Victor Chandler and Bet365, whilst the draw is available at top price 3/1 with William Hill. Aston Villa have plenty of attacking options – with Darren Bent, Emile Heskey, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Nathan Delfouneso able to play up front – but have had difficulty finding the right strategic formula to unlock their full potential. Villa are not creating chances as regularly as they should be, and are finding it repeatedly difficult to put matches beyond the reaches of their opponents. This is incredibly frustrating for the whole squad, particularly the attacking players, and Alex McLeish will be hoping that his side find winning form against Wigan on Saturday. Wigan have begun their Premier League campaign dismally, losing in each of heir last three fixtures. Roberto Martinez is tasked with the difficult job of trying to keep Wigan afloat in the Premiership for another season, having, much to everyone's surprise, turned down an opportunity to manage Villa over the summer. He will want to secure three points on the road, and prove that he made the right decision by staying loyal to Wigan. In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 10/11 with William Hill, whilst under 2.5 is available at evens with Ladbrokes. For those punters who expect this match to be a bore draw, under 0.5 goals can be backed at 10/1 with Stan James. Gabriel Agbonlahor has scored three goals in the league for Aston Villa, more than any other player in the squad, and can be backed at 5/1 with Paddy Power to open the scoring on Saturday. Agbonlahor's team mate Darren Bent has not yet found his best form in front of goal this season, but is nonetheless favoured above Agbonlahor to score first at 7/2 with Boylesports. Wigan's Franco Di Santo is deemed to be their most threatening player, and is available at 9/1 with Paddy Power to break the deadlock. Aston Villa are quoted at best odds of 8/5 by Boylespots to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Villa is available at 10/3 with Victor Chandler. Draw/Wigan can be backed at 11/1 with Coral, whilst punters who expect Wigan to fight back and win the game after trailing at half time can fetch odds as long as 55/1 with Paddy Power. Kick off is at 15.00 BST. |
