Premier League top goalscorer betting odds: Rooney favourite

Wayne Rooney leads the way in the betting on the Premier League top goalscorer, with United's talisman available at 2/1 with Sky Bet after banging in nine league goals already this season. That tally includes two hat-tricks and, with his place in a free-scoring side all but guarenteed, he looks a worthy market leader.Â
He is followed by another who has flown out of the blocks- Sergio Aguero of Manchester City. The Argentinian is just one goal behind Rooney, having settled quickly in English football, and can be backed at 10/3 with William Hill, although he will need to keep his place in a very competitive side if he is to earn the Golden Boot.Â
The main threat to that place comes from Edin Dzeko, who has after a woeful first season finally begun to repay his vast transfer fee. He has five goals already and many could be tempted by his odds of 7/1 with Bet 365 and William Hill.Â
Next in the betting are Luis Suarez and Javier Hernandez, at 10/1 and 12/1 with Bet 365. Suarez was incredibly prolific at Ajax, once hitting 33 goals in a league campaign, while Hernandez will appeal after more than adeqately demonstrating his goalscoring ability last season.
Robin van Persie is available at 16/1 with Coral, and his brace this weekend brought his tally this season to five. If, and it is a very, very big if, he can stay fit, 16/1 is a big price indeed for a player who broke the Premier League record for goals in consecutive away games last term.Â
Two players who have shown that they have Premier League goals in them are Fernando Torres and Emmanuel Adebayor, both at 25/1 with Bet 365. Torres looks as if he is rediscovering what was once incredible net-finding form, although it is early days yet, while Adebayor may not get the opportunities he needs in a Tottenham side that are known for sharing their goals around.Â
One long-shot worth mentioning is Mario Balotelli, who has three goals so far and almost boundless talent and potential, at 50/1 with Ladbrokes. He has the ear of fellow Italian Mancini, and so could work his way into the team with strong enough form, but it will be difficult for the troublemaker to both stay in the good-books of the manager and oust Dzeko and Aguero.Â
