Premier League: Aston Villa v West Brom Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2011-10-21 09:11:21
BIRMINGHAM, UK – Aston Villa face West Brom in their eagerly anticipated Premier League clash on Saturday. Villa lost their last league fixture 4-1 against Manchester City, a result which brought their undefeated record in the league to an end. Alex McLeish's side will be eager to reassert themselves with a victory in their upcoming fixture.
Villa will be playing with the advantage of a home crowd, and start the match as favourites to win at best odds of evens with Victor Chandler. West Brom, on the other hand, can be backed at 7/2 (bet £2 to make £7 profit) with Ladbrokes, whilst the draw is on offer at 12/5 with Skybet.
Until their loss away at the Etihad Stadium last weekend Aston Villa were proving an incredibly tough side to beat in the Premier League, but at the same time were finding it extremely hard to translate draws into wins. The Birmingham club had drawn four out of five matches before their trip to Manchester, and Alex McLeish seemed to be having difficulties finding a system which worked for his players. Villa will be determined not only to bounce back from their recent defeat, but to find consistent winning form for the first time this season. There would be no better way to start this than by securing three points against West Brom.
West Brom are currently three points behind their opponents in the league table, and go in to Saturday's game off the back of a 2-0 win over Wolves on Sunday. Roy Hodgson will hope that his side can produce a similar performance away at Villa Park.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals is 21/20 with Bet365, whilst under 2.5 goals can be backed at 16/11 with Stan James. For those punters anticipating a goalless stalemate, however, under 0.5 goals can be backed at best odds of 10/1 with William Hill.
English star Darren Bent has only scored two goals in the league this season, but bookmakers are favouring him to open the scoring on Saturday nonetheless. Bent can currently be backed at best odds of 9/2 with Victor Chandler. Bent's team mate Gabriel Agbonlahor is also deemed likely to score first at 11/2 with Paddy Power, whilst West Brom's Shane Long can be backed at a slightly longer 15/2 with Stan James.
Aston Villa are quoted at best odds of 11/5 with Betinternet to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Villa is on offer at 9/2 with William Hill. Draw/West Brom is available at 9/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst those punters who think that West Brom will fight back to win the game after trailing at half time can back Villa/West Brom at odds as long as 40/1 with Paddy Power.
Kick off is at 15.00 BST
