Premier League: Wigan Athletic v Fulham Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2011-10-28 08:00:03
WIGAN, UK β Wigan Athletic host Fulham at the DW Stadium on Saturday in a clash between two sides desperate for points in the Premier League. Wigan's season started brightly, as they secured five points from their first three fixtures. Since then, however, Roberto Martinez's side have been on an utterly dire run of form, losing six games in a row. Fulham, as a result, start the game as favourites to win, and can be backed to do so at best odds of 6/4 with Coral. The game is being billed as a close encounter, however, and Wigan are on offer to take the points at 21/10 with Victor Chandler, whilst the draw is available at 23/10 with Skybet.
There is very little to encourage Martinez's side in the build up to Saturday's game, but one thing they can draw hope from is the terrible recent form of their opposition. Fulham have not been playing quite as poorly as Wigan, but seem to be equally incapable of securing victories. Martin Jol's side have only won one game in the Premiership this season, and are currently languishing in seventeenth position in the league β only one point clear of the relegation zone. If Wigan are to snap out of their under-performing ways, then they are most likely to do so against a side who are also having difficulties.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 11/10 with Paddy Power, whilst under 2.5 goals is available at 8/11 with Boylesports. For those punters who think that the game will end in a goalless stalemate, however, under 0.5 goals can be backed at 9/1 with Stan James.
English striker Andy Johnson has been prolific in a Fulham shirt this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions so far, and can be backed to open the scoring on Saturday at best odds of 15/2 with Victor Chandler. Johnson's team mate Bobby Zamora is thought to be even more dangerous by the bookmakers, and can be backed to break the deadlock at a shorter 13/2 with Coral. Wigan star Hugo Rodallega is available at identical odds with Paddy Power.
Fulham are quoted at best odds of 4/1 with Ladbrokes to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Fulham is on offer at 5/1 with Blue Square. Draw/Wigan is available at 13/2 with Coral, whilst those punters who think that Wigan will win the match after trailing at half time can back Fulham/Wigan at odds as long as 40/1 with Stan James.
Kick off is at 15.00 BST
