MANCHESTER, UK - Manchester United welcome Steve Bruce's Sunderland to Old Trafford this Saturday, as Sir Alex Ferguson celebrates his 25th year at the helm of the Premier League Champions. Man Utd are comfortable favourites for the match with Paddy Power offering an industry-best 2/7 on a home victory. Sunderland are 14/1 with Stan James to ruin Sir Alex's celebrations by taking all three points whilst the draw is a 11/2 chance at Ladbrokes.
This weekend Sir Alex Ferguson will celebrate his twenty fifth season at Old Trafford, as arguably Britain's greatest ever manager continues his quest for both Domestic and European domination. During the last quarter of a century, Ferguson has brought a period of unparalleled success to the red half of Manchester, hauling in a remarkable thirty seven major trophies in the process. As Ferguson chases his thirteenth Premier League title, this year's challengers to the crown are nouveau riche Manchester City, who humbled the reigning champions 6-1 a fortnight ago to move five points ahead of their nieghbours at the top of the Premier League table. The Red Devils have however bounced back from that derby humiliation with three straight victories and will be looking for a fourth today to close the gap on City back to two points.
Sunderland currently sit 14th in the League after a disappointing start has seen the side pick up ten points from their opening ten matches. Sunderland have however been experiencing a return to form of late, securing a 2-0 victory away to Bolton and a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in their last two league meetings. Black Cats Manager Steve Bruce, who played in three of Sir Alex's title-winning sides, will be looking for his first victory over his former manager at the eighteenth attempt and Sunderland's first at Old Trafford since 1968.
Man United are 11/2 with Bet365 to win the match by two goals to nil or 7/1 with William Hill to record a 3-0 triumph. Sunderland are 33/1 with Paddy Power to snatch a famous 1-0 victory whilst 2-1 to the visitors is 33/1 at Bet365. The 1-1 draw is a 11/1 chance at William Hill.
Man Utd/Man Utd is the favourite in the Half-Time/Full-Time market at a best price of 8/11 with Paddy Power whilst Draw/Man Utd is 4/1 at Betfred. Punters can back Sunderland to be leading at the interval and go on to win the match at 25/1 with Boylesports whilst Draw/Draw is 19/2 at Victor Chandler.
Wayne Rooney, who has impressed in a centre midfield role recently, is expected to lead the line once more for the Red Devils and is the 7/2 favourite to break the deadlock with Paddy Power. Javier Hernandez is 4/1 to open the scoring with Bet365 whilst former Sunderland loanee Danny Welbeck is a 9/2 chance in the market with Coral. Nicklas Bendtner is Sunderland’s favourite to grab the opener at 12/1 with Stan James whilst Connor Wickham is a 16/1 shot at Paddy Power.
The Match Kicks off at 1500 GMT.
