Premier League: Wigan v Blackburn Odds and Betting Preview
By Michael Peet on 2011-11-18 15:05:41
WIGAN, UK - The two teams propping up the Premier League table in Saturday afternoon's six-pointer at the DW Stadium. Wigan are unconvincing 8/5 favourites to take a vital three points while Blackburn's chances of victory are rated 2/1 by Victor Chandler. Betfred and Totesport are quoting 9/4 that the game ends a draw.
Roberto Martinez takes charge of his 100th game as Wigan boss well aware that if his team's performances don't improve, he may well be out of a job before Christmas. Wigan have now lost eight games on the trot - one short of a joint Premier Leaugue record - and are firm 2/5 favourites at Boyle Sports to be relegated. Their attack has been particularly ineffective all season, providing a meagre return of seven league goals.
So the visit of fellow strugglers Blackburn looks to be coming at just the right time. Life Wigan, Rovers have won just one match all season (against Arsenal nearly three months ago), and Steve Kean's future as manager continues to be a source of intense speculation. His team has, however, shown some spirit of late, and they were unlucky not to take three points at Norwich in their last away encounter, which ended 3-3.
The odds would suggest we are in for a cagey meeting, with 1-1 the favoured scoreline at 6/1 with Blue Square and William Hill and 0-0 available at a standout 11/1 with Sportingbet. Wigan's last victory was a 2-0 home triumph against QPR, and the Latics can be backed at 11/1 with Bet365 to win by the same scoreline here. The woeful cleansheet record of both teams might 8/1 (Paddy Power) on 2-1 to Wigan a more promising prospect, or even 2-1 Rovers, which is a 10/1 shot at Ladbrokes. Skybet, meanwhile, a offering 10/1 that Blackburn snatch a 1-0 victory.
Double result bettors can put money on Wigan/Wigan at 7/2 with Boyle Sports, but given the hosts have led at the interval just once all season Draw/Wigan looks better value at 5/1 with Paddy Power and Skybet. Draw/Blackburn comes in a slightly better 6/1 at Unibet.
Ladbrokes are going evens on the game producing under 2.5 goals, and are top price on over 3.5 at 12/5 - a possible tempter given that Wigan and Blackburn's last encounter was a seven goal thriller. Punters can put money on under 1.5 at 11/4 with William Hill.
Hugo Rodallega hasn't scored a league goal in the season but finds himself favourite to open the scoring here at 7/1 with Coral. Franco di Santo looks better value at 15/2 with Titanbet. Blackburn's Yakubu, meanwhile, can be backed to hit his 100th Premier League goal at 15/2 with Victor Chandler.
The match kicks off at 1500 GMT.
