Premier League: Manchester City v Newcastle Odds and Betting Preview

MANCHESTER, UK – League leaders Manchester City host third placed Newcastle in their eagerly anticipated Premiership clash on Saturday. City and Newcastle are the only two sides who remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season, but Roberto Mancini will be hoping, no doubt, that his team can end Newcastle’s run at the Ethiad stadium on Saturday. City start the game as strong favourites to do just that, and can currently be backed at best odds of 1/3 (bet £3 to make £1 profit) with Boylesports. For those punters anticipating an upset, however, Newcastle are available at 10/1 with Blue Square, whilst the draw is on offer at 9/2 with the same bookmakers.
Manchester City have scored an extraordinary 39 goals in their 11 league games so far this season, and currently lead the table by five points. Mancini’s side have not lost against Newcastle in their last nine meetings – not since Michael Owen secured a 1-0 win for the magpies in 2005 – but the Italian manager will be urging his men not to underestimate their opposition nonetheless. Newcastle have conceded only eight goals so far this season, defending with a level of focus and vigilance that allows them to boast the best defensive record of any side in the league. City will have to produce their best attacking football if they are to cut through Newcastle’s defence on Saturday.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 4/7 with Bet365, whilst under 2.5 goals is on offer at 6/4 with Ladbrokes. For those punters anticipating a bore draw, however, under 0.5 goals can be backed at longer odds of 16/1 with William Hill.
Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko have been on ruthless form in front of goal for City so far this season, netting 10 and 9 league goals respectively. The two strikers are likely to start up front for City, and are currently joint-favourites to open the scoring on Saturday at 4/1 with Victor Chandler. Newcastle’s most dangerous player so far this season, on the other hand, had been Demba Ba, who has hit the net eight times in his last six league appearances. Ba can currently be backed to break the deadlock at 11/1 with Bet365.
City are quoted at best odds of 5/6 with Paddy Power to win the game after leading at half time, whilst draw/City is on offer at 7/2 with William Hill. Draw/Newcastle is available at a longer 22/1 with Bet365, whilst City/Newcastle can be backed at odds as long as 80/1 with Paddy Power.
