LONDON,UK: The competition for a spot in the Premier League's top four has never been hotter, particularly in the light of Liverpool's win at Chelsea on Sunday. Spurs are among the leaders in the race, according to the bookmakers, who believe the should further their claims with a win over Villa on Monday night. Paddy Power offer 8/15 on the home side, with the draw at 10/3 with Victor Chandler, who are also top price on the visitors, at 13/2.Â
Harry Redknapp's summer business has proved a shrewd as ever, and the signings of Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor, along with the retention of key players such as Luka Modric, make Spurs one of the league's most feared attacking sides. They have won seven of their last nine games in all competitions, and should have too much for Villa, who are yet to win away from home this season.
The joint-favourite scores for the game are 2-1 and 2-0 to the hosts, at 8/1 with Paddy Power, ahead of a 1-1 draw at 17/2 with Victor Chandler. At the same price, again with Paddy Power, is a 1-0 win for Spurs, while the game is 16/1 with Sky Bet to finish 0-0. A 1-0 Villa win is as long as 20/1 with Bet 365.Â
The first goalscorer market is lead by Rafael van der Vaart and Adebayor, with Paddy Power offering 9/2 on both players. Jermain Defoe is next in the betting, at 5/1 with Ladbrokes, while Roman Pavlyuchenko is available at 13/2 with Stan James. The Spurs defence will be wary of the threat posed by the ever-prolific Darren Bent, however, who can be backed at 9/1 with Paddy Power to draw first blood with what would be his sixth goal of the campaign.
Spurs are 7/5 with Boylesports to lead at both half-time and full-time on Monday and 7/2 with Ladbrokes to win the match after drawing at half-time. Victor Chandler make it 7/1 that both halves are drawn, while Villa/Villa and draw/Villa are available at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively with Boylesports.
Chelsea's defeat on Sunday means Spurs are on the same points as the 2010 champions, with two games in hand, and Betfred make the North Londoners evens to finish in the top four this season. Rivals Arsenal are now as long 11/8 for such a finish, while Villa, who spent so many seasons knocking on the door, can be backed at 100/1 with Stan James.Â
The game kicks off at 20.00 GMT and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
