Premier League: Sunderland v Wigan Athletic Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2011-11-25 16:00:01
SUNDERLAND, UK – Sunderland host Wigan Athletic in their Premiership clash at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Sunderland are without a win in their last three league games, but nevertheless start the match as strong 8/11 (bet £11 to make £8 profit) favourites to win against last-placed Wigan. Roberto Martinez’s side, on the other hand, are on offer to secure a surprise win at 9/2 with Bet365, whilst the draw can be backed at 14/5 with Victor Chandler.
Sunderland have won only two matches so far this campaign, defeating Bolton 2-0 on the road and Stoke 4-0 at home. The statistic is not an impressive one, but Steve Bruce’s side are currently unbeaten at home in their last four outings, and whilst they need to begin converting draws into victories at the Stadium of Light, they seem to have established a solid defensive platform from which to do exactly that. Sunderland will be eager, therefore, to gain a victory against Wigan on Saturday, and will no doubt feel confident that they can defend effectively against a side who have scored only ten times in twelve matches. Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic have managed only one victory this season, and know that they need to turn things around extremely rapidly if they are to stay in the top flight for another season.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is evens with Ladbrokes, whilst under 2.5 goals is on offer at 10/11 with William Hill. For those punters who think that this match will produce a surprising feast of goals, however, over 4.5 goals can be backed at longer odds of 11/2 with Bet365.
Nicklas Bendtner has only scored twice for Sunderland so far this season, but nonetheless starts as 9/2 favourite with William Hill and Paddy Power to be the first name on the score sheet on Saturday. Sunderland team mate Ji Dong-Won is also deemed to be dangerous up front, and is on offer to score first at 6/1with Ladbrokes, whilst Wigan’s most threatening striker is thought to be Hugo Rodallega, who can be backed to break the deadlock at 17/2 with Victor Chandler.
Sunderland are quoted at best odds of 17/10 with William Hill to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Sunderland is on offer at 7/2 with both Skybet and Ladbrokes. Draw/Wigan is available at 11/1 with Boylesports, whilst those punters who think that Wigan will fight back to win the match after trailing at half time can back Sunderland/Wigan at odds as long as 50/1 with Paddy Power.
Kick-Off is at 15.00 GMT
