Premier League: Newcastle United v Chelsea Odds and Betting Preview
By Ronan Curran on 2011-12-02 16:56:01
NEWCASTLE, UK – Saturday’s early kick-off sees high-flying Newcastle entertain Andre Villas Boas’ stuttering Chelsea side at the Sports Direct Arena. Chelsea are the 6/5 favourites for the contest with Ladbrokes. Newcastle are 11/4 with Betfred whilst the draw is a 12/5 chance at Paddy Power.
Chelsea head into this weekend’s match in a dismal run of form, after losing three of their last four matches to crank up the pressure on their inexperienced manager, Andre Villas Boas. The Blues are currently in fifth place in the table, already a full ten points behind League Leaders Manchester City, and could face a real fight on their hands just to qualify for Europe’s top competition, with a plethora of teams in the chase for Champions League places this season. Chelsea will be to get back on track after a lacklustre run of form this weekend, with a critical clash with Valencia to come on Tuesday.
Newcastle have confounded all preseason expectations so far this season and currently sit fourth place in the table, one point above this Saturday’s visitors. Alan Pardew’s side continued their fine form last weekend at Old Trafford, producing a heroic defensive display to come away with a share of the spoils against League Champions Manchester United, and will be full of confidence as they target another upset this weekend. The Magpies are undefeated at St James’ Park/the Sports Direct Arena this season, with four victories and two draws in six home league matches.  Â
Newcastle can be backed at 10/1 with Bet365 to grab a 1-0 victory whilst 2-0 to the hosts is a 20/1 shot at Ladbrokes. Chelsea are 7/1 with Bet365 to come away with a one nil victory with 2-1 to the visitors an 8/1 chance at Paddy Power. William Hill offer an industry-best 10/1 on a goalless draw.
Four of Newcastle’s last five home league matches have contained at least three goals and punters expecting another high scoring affair can back over 2.5 goals to be scored at 19/20 with Bet365 or four or more at 5/1 with Paddy Power. Victor Chandler offer 10/11 on less than three goals being scored whilst less than two goals in the match is a 5/2 chance with Stan James.
Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge, who has scored six goals in nine matches this season, is the 13/2 favourite in the first goalscorer market with Paddy Power. Out of form Fernando Torres is a 7/1 shot in the same market with Victor Chandler whilst fellow Spanish international Juan Mata is a 10/1 shot to open the scoring with Ladbrokes. Senegalese striker Demba Ba, who has been in lethal form with nine league goals so far this season, is Newcastle’s top chance to break the deadlock at 13/2 with William Hill.
The Match Kicks Off at 1245 GMT with live coverage on Sky Sports 2.Â

Errr, David Villa of Barcelona and Spain fame.
Clearly just some spotty teenager with a spam account, but still, we can say that David Villa likes LiveOddsAndScores.com!
