Premier League - Newcastle v Swansea Odds and Betting Preview

NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND
Newcastle will be looking to get back on the right track against Swansea at the Sports Direct Arena this weekend. The Magpies started the season fantastically but it seems now they are returning to playing as pundits expected at the start of the season. Swansea find themselves in a very impressive 11th place and they seem to have dealt with the transition to the Premier League very well. The hosts are favourite to take all three points at 4/5 with bet365. Next likely is the draw at 5/2 with Coral whereas a win for the Swans is priced up at 7/2 with StanJames.com.
Many have put Newcastle’s recent dip in form down to their limited options in defence. Thankfully Fabricio Coloccini looks to return to the side and Mike Williamson could also be used to bolster the back four. However Dan Gosling is serving a one match ban and Cheick Tiote is doubtful as he has a knee problem. Alan Pardew’s team only conceded eight goals in their first 11 games of the season. This is a stark contrast to their more recent performances; they have conceded 11 in their last four matches.
Swansea have been somewhat bi-polar in the Premier League this season. At home they have kept seven clean sheets which is joint highest with Manchester United. They have only conceded two goals in eight matches at the Liberty Stadium. On the road however it has been a completely different story as only Blackburn have conceded more this season. Joe Allen is set to return after serving his suspension and likewise captain Garry Monk and Danny Graham are both likely to feature.
The favourite correct score is a 1-1 draw given at 6/1 with Boylesports. Following this a 1-0 win for the Toon Army is at 13/2 with bet 365. A Swansea 1-0 win is at 12/1 with bet 365 but for those expecting Newcastle to return to dominant ways, a score of 4-0 is given at 33/1 with BETFRED. Swansea’s defending has been completely inconsistent; occasionally brilliant but also sporadically dire. With this in mind the odds on total goals scored look very interesting. Under 1.5 goals is priced up at 11/4 with bet365. At the other end of the spectrum over 4.5 goals is at 5/1 with bet365 also.
In the half-time/full-time market Newcastle/Newcastle is at odds of 5/4 with Ladbrokes. The chances of Newcastle squandering a first half lead and going on to lose are given odds of 40/1 with bet365. In the first goalscorer market Demba Ba is the favourite to break the deadlock at 7/2 with Boylesports. The Senegalese forward has had a terrific 2011 as he has scored 18 Premier League goals (only Van Persie and Rooney have bettered that). For the visitors most hope lies with Danny Graham. The Magpies were Graham’s childhood heroes and he says he will relish the opportunity to compete against them. He is given odds of 8/1 with William Hill to be the first name on the scoresheet.
The match kicks off at 3.00 on Saturday.
