Premier League: Swansea v Arsenal Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2012-01-15 06:00:02
SWANSEA, UK – Brendan Rodgers’ Swansea City side host Arsenal on Sunday afternoon in an eagerly anticipated Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium. Arsenal are thirteen points ahead of their opponents, and unsurprisingly start today’s game as strong favourites to win: they are currently on offer at best odds of 17/20 with Ladbrokes. For those punters expecting the home side to collect three points, however, Swansea are available at a marked best of 4/1 with Paddy Power, whilst the draw can be backed at 13/5 with Skybet.
Arsenal are currently one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, and will doubtless be eager to overhaul them by the end of the season in order to secure Champions League football next year. If they are to continue putting pressure on Chelsea, however, Wenger’s side must gain a victory in today’s game. The Arsenal squad has been given a boost by the return of club-legend Thierry Henry, who has joined the Gunners on a two month loan deal. Henry scored with only his fifth touch after being brought on as a substitute against Leeds in the Carling Cup on Monday, marking a triumphant return to English football. Wenger is hoping that Henry can help Arsenal through this difficult period, where a number of his players are absent at the Africa Cup of Nations. Henry is likely to start up front alongside Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored in this afternoon’s fixture is 21/20 with Bet365, whilst under 2.5 goals being scored is on offer at 5/6 with Ladbrokes. The bookmakers are clearly not expecting this game to end in a dreary goalless draw, however, and punters can therefore back under 0.5 goals being scored at considerably longer odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes.
Dutch wizard Robin van Persie has netted an astonishing 17 goals in the Premiership so far this season, and currently tops the top scorer rankings. Unsurprisingly van Persie starts today’s game as the favourite to be the first name on the scoresheet, and is currently on offer at a market bet of 3/1 with Bet365. Thierry Henry is also thought likely to open the scoring by the bookmakers, and can be backed to do so at 11/2 with the same bookmakers, whilst Theo Walcott is available at longer odds of 8/1 with Ladbrokes. Swansea’s most threatening player, on the other hand, is Danny Graham, who has hit the net eight times in all competitions. Graham is on offer to break the deadlock at 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
Arsenal are quoted at 7/4 with Paddy Power to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Arsenal is on offer at 4/1 with William Hill. Draw/Swansea is available at 11/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst those punters who think that the home side will fight back to win after trailing at half time can back Arsenal/Swansea at odds as long as 50/1 with Stan James.
Kick-Off is at 16.00 GMT
