Becks Backed For England Job As Capello Announces Exit
Bookmaker Coral has cut the odds on David Beckham becoming the next England manager to 14-1 (from 20-1), after the former skipper was the subject of decent support to replace Fabio Capello following the Italian`s announcement that he would stand down after Euro 2012.
Harry Redknapp is the 11-4 favourite to fill the hot seat, ahead of Martin O`Neill at 5-1, and Stuart Pearce and Roy Hodgson, both 6-1 with Coral.
"David Beckham`s England playing career looks to be over, but already some punters think he could be the man picking the team in two year`s time, although we still think the FA will turn to a man with managerial experience, and currently favour Harry Redknapp, whose stock has risen by taking Spurs into the Champions League," said Coral`s David Stevens.
Next Permanent England Manager
- 11-4 H Redknapp
- 5-1 M O`Neill
- 6-1 S Pearce, R Hodgson
- 12-1 G Hiddink
- 14-1 (from 20-1) D Beckham
- 16-1 S Allardyce
- 20-1 M Lippi, j Mourinho, S Bruce, A Shearer
