Rooney fans land 9/2 opening goal gamble. Rooney 6/4 to break Bobby Charlton`s record as bookies cheer Scotland flop

WAYNE Rooney`s opening goal for England saw punters land a major coup according to Ladbrokes.
The bookies had been offering 9/2 for the United striker to open the scoring in Basle - and Rooney fans threw their support behind the under-fire hitman with hard cash to bash the bookies.
David Williams of Ladbrokes said: "Rooney`s opener was a sickener for us. Madame Fate was clearly on the side of the punters and Rooney. The script went against us big time."
Rooney is now 6/4 to break Sir Bobby Charlton`s all-time England goal-scoring record. England remain 8/1 to win the Euros in 2012 and are 1/14 to qualify from their group.
Scotland`s failure to beat Liechtenstein at Hampden Park was some relief to the bookies who had chalked up 1/12 about Craig Levein`s men cruising to victory.
