Modfather Shoots Into The Lead For Mercury Prize

Rock god Paul Weller is the new hot favourite to win this year’s Mercury Music Prize when the award is announced tomorrow.
The Modfather, who was nominated for the same award in 1994 but lost out to M People, is the 6/5 favourite with Paddy Power ahead of The XX who were the initial hot favourites to win the prestigious music prize.
Although 14/1 on the bookies list, Irish music act The Villagers are Paddy Power’s biggest loser should they pull off a surprise win with their debut album ‘Becoming a Jackal’.
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “The Villagers have been well backed presumably by their loyal supporters but it’s Paul Weller who all the momentum is behind. It looks like The Modfather is going to take all the other acts out on the night!â€
