Murray Cut For Sports Award Following Federer Win
Andy Murray was cut to 6-1 (from 10-1) to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award by Coral bookmakers, following his impressive straight sets victory over Roger Federer to win the Rogers Cup in Toronto.
The world number four had previously beaten Rafa Nadal in the semi final, on route to retaining the title he won last year.
“This performance alone wouldn’t be enough to win the award, but a place in the US Open final at Flushing Meadow next month would certainly have him challenging for favouritism,” said Coral spokesman Gary Burton.
Grand National winning jockey, Tony McCoy, is still the 2-1 clear favourite.
BBC Sports Personality of the Year
- 2-1 Tony (A.P) McCoy
- 6-1 (from 10-1) Andy Murray, Jessica Ennis
- 10-1 Phil Taylor
- 11-1 Mo Farah, Lewis Hamilton
- 16-1 Graeme McDowell
- 20-1 David Haye
- 25-1 Lee Westwood, Amy Williams
- 33-1 Rory McIlroy, Jenson Button
