Golf World Hangs On Captains` Picks

US Ryder Cup Team
Tiger Woods is tipped to be a Ryder Cup wildcard pick having failed to cement an automatic spot during the weekend’s USPGA.
Paddy Power has the World Number One as an almost certain 1/6 to be included in the picks following another disappointing tournament and finishing well outside the top 7 place required for his automatic selection. The remaining three players most likely to join Woods on the Team are Anthony Kim 1/3, Zach Johnson 2/5 and Sean O’Hair at 4/7. However the decision is far from clear cut with other golfers like Cink still an odds on 8/11 to receive a wildcard and Watney only 5/4 making Pavin’s decision even harder to predict.
European Ryder Cup Team
Strong performances from the European golfers in the final major of the year have made it yet clearer who is likely to qualify, but with two tournaments still to count in the Euro points there may still be twist in the tale. With some big names missing out on the qualifying spots Paddy Power quotes Harrington as 1/10 to be on Monty’s list with Justin Rose and Luke Donald also an odds on 1/6 and 1/5 respectively.
Europe remains the odds on favourite with Paddy Power at 8/13 for the trophy with the US at 13/8.
Euro Heroes
Paddy Power also tip more European success in the Majors in 2011, with one European winner of a major the 11/8 favourite and two Euro winners at 9/4.
Roberto Coladangelo spokesman for Paddy Power said; “Some big US names will now be hoping recent performances caught the eye to earn a Captain’s pick, but with Tiger very likely to take one of the picks the other players will now be really sweating on their place. The European team will be in buoyant mood after another European picked up a Major title. Monty will need to choose wisely to add the firepower and experience required to justify their favourite tag ahead of the clash at Celtic Manor in October.”
Paddy Power has also refunded bets on Dustin Johnson after the unlucky American was cruelly robbed in the final round of The USPGA. Leading by a shot coming up the 18th, the American was given a two shot penalty for grounding his club in a “bunker”. Paddy Power have taken a different view to the over zealous officials and are refunding all win bets and the win part of each way bets on the American. Dustin can comfort himself though in the knowledge his performance has guaranteed a place in the US Ryder Cup team.
