David James 3/1 to sign for Sunderland

Sky Bet make David James 3/1 to sign for Sunderland following the news that the Black Cats manager Steve Bruce would be keen on securing the services of the 39-year-old. It`s believed that Bruce could turn to James after Sunderland`s first-choice keeper Craig Gordon suffered a broken arm in training, which would see the Scotland international miss the start of the new season.

However, Sky Bet make Celtic the 11/8 joint favourites along with Bristol City to sign James.

Sky Bet`s Tim Reynolds said: "James is currently available on a free transfer and would be seen as an ideal short-term replacement for the injured Gordon but with the England international now coming towards the end of his career, he`ll be looking for a contract to see him through to his retirement, which both Celtic and Bristol City will be able to offer."

In the other transfer news, Scott Parker is 5/6 to sign for Tottenham following the news that Harry Redknapp is keen to bring the West Ham player to White Hart Lane. Spurs have already had an initial bid of £7 million turned down for Parker, who still has three years left on his current contract.
