Early gamble on Peter Reid sees odds slashed
Peter Reid has been the subject of significant early money with Betfred as Bolton go in search of a new manager. The ex-Bolton player was cut from 25/1 to 6/1 within an hour of the market being opened following Gary Megson`s sacking on Wednesday morning.
Bolton was Reid`s first club as a player, where he made over 200 appearances, before moving on to greater things with Everton and England in a glittering playing career.
Now assistant manager to Tony Pulis at Stoke City, the 53-year-old has not managed in the Premier League since taking charge of a struggling Leeds United in 2003.
Betfred spokesman Mark Yates said: "You always seem to get the same names in these `next manager` markets but Peter Reid has been the stand-out selection for punters today.
"We`ve already seen a lot of money for him at 25/1 so we had to go shorter. He`s obviously got a history with the club so who knows, he could be their man."
Other names in the hat include ex-Manchester City boss Mark Hughes, who is the 3/1 favourite, and former Wigan manager Paul Jewell, who is priced at 7/2 with the firm.
There has also been some interest for Burnley manager Owen Coyle, who is a 20/1 shot, as well as 8/1 chance Alan Curbishley.
Next Bolton manager
- 3/1 Mark Hughes
- 7/2 Paul Jewell
- 6/1 Darren Ferguson
- 6/1 Peter Reid
- 8/1 Steve Coppell
- 8/1 Alan Curbishley
- 14/1 Alan Irvine
