France take on Ireland today in the Six Nations, with both teams hoping to build on solid first week performances and put themselves in contention to win. France beat Scotland 9-18 last weekend, while Ireland thrashed Italy 29-11. This match has been billed as the match which will decide the winner of the Six Nations this year, and the winner could well go on to win the Grand Slam.
France`s home advantage makes them favourite for the match, priced at 1/2 (bet £20 to make £10 profit), while Ireland are priced at 2/1. The draw is priced at 31/1 with Betfair.
Bookies make France 5 or 6 point favourites on handicap betting, meaning that you get bet France -5 at evens with Paddy Power, and Ireland +6 at evens with bet365. You can bet at 20/1 on it to be a tie with the 5 point handicap, and at 17/1 to be a draw with the 6 point handicap.
Vincent Clerc is favourite to be the first tryscorer at 12/1, followed by Mathieu Bastareaud, who scored two tries against Scotland, at 14/1. Keith Earls, Brian O`Driscoll and Tommy Bowe are all at 16/1 for Ireland.
A France penalty is the favourite to be the first scoring play, priced at 7/4. An Ireland penalty is 15/8 with Coral, while a French try is at 13/2. A try for Ireland is at 8/1, while a drop goal is 14/1 for France and 20/1 for Ireland. You can also back a penalty try for either side at 66/1, and for those who enjoy the longshots, you can back no score at 1000/1.
France are the favourites to win the tournament, priced at 5/4, while Ireland are just behind at 9/4. France are 3/1 to win the Grand Slam and Ireland are 6/1 to win it for the second year running.
