Scottish Cup: Inverness CT v Celtic Odds and Betting Preview
By Robert Alexander on 2012-02-03 20:15:02
INVERNESS, UK - The William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round match between Inverness CT and Celtic sees two SPL sides in decent form take each other on for a place in the quarter finals, where Celtic knocked out Caley Thistle last season. The home side are top priced at 7/1 (bet £10 to make £70 profit) with the competition sponsors to cause a big upset and gain some revenge for last season's defeat. Celtic, who have already won 2-0 in the SPL at Inverness are quoted at best odds of 4/9 at bet365 and Ladbrokes to win the match and continue their progress towards another Hampden Park final. The draw is available at best odds of 100/30 at Betfred and Coral.
In the last round, Inverness CT had to go to extra-time in a replay at East End Park to finally gain victory over Dunfermline Athletic after they hit a dramatic last minute equaliser at home in the original tie. The effort was certainly worth it for Terry Butcher's men as they now play in a money-spinning televised tie against Old Firm opposition. Inverness are on a five match unbeaten run in the SPL and will need to replicate that form in the cup to have any chance of progressing. Inverness are currently as long as 40/1 at bet365 and BetVictor to win the Scottish Cup.
Celtic on the other hand made serene progress to the last 16 with a very comfortable 3-0 win against Third Division Peterhead. Celtic have won twelve in a row in the SPL and are heavy favourites for the title. Neil Lennon knows that any slip up, even in another competition, could set some doubt in the mind of his players so they will go all out to continue their fantastic form with victory in Inverness. The Hoops are currently 2/1 favourites at Ladbrokes and Coral to win the competition.
Celtic have won both their SPL matches against Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-0 this season and the same scoreline in this encounter can be backed at best odds of 13/2 at William Hill and Coral, whilst 1-0 to the Glasgow giants is the same price at Boylesports and Coral. A 1-1 draw is available at best odds of 8/1 at 888 Sport and Blue Square, while bet365 quote best odds of 18/1 about a 1-0 win for Inverness.
The bookies are clearly expecting a low scoring game so it is perhaps surprising that under 2.5 goals in the match can be backed at best odds of 11/10 at Ladbrokes and totesport, whilst over 2.5 is top priced at 4/5 with Stan James.
Inverness are yet to score against Celtic this season but tend to perform better in cup competitions against Celtic, causing plenty of upsets in the past. For that reason, the evens at Stan James about 'Yes' in the both teams to score market might tempt some punters, whilst Coral and William Hill quote best odds of 10/11 about 'No'.
Celtic goal-machine Gary Hooper once again tops the first goalscorer betting and is quoted at best odds of 3/1 at Betfred and Skybet to hit the back of the net first, with Anthony Stokes quoted at best odds of 7/2 at bet365 and BetVictor. New signing Pawel Brozek comes straight in at 5/1 with bet365 and totesport to score the opener for The Bhoys. Inverness foward Gregory Tadé is as long as 11/1 with bet365 and BetVictor to break the deadlock for the home side, with Jonny Hayes top priced at 16/1 with 888 Sport and Blue Square.
The match kicks off at 1245 GMT and is live on Sky Sports 3
