VILLA PARK, BIRMINGHAM - Aston Villa threw away a two goal lead with ten minutes to go on Saturday lunchtime as Manchester United continued unbeaten in this Premier League campaign. Aston Villa were 17/4 outsiders (bet £4 to win £17) before kick-off to beat Manchester United and were looking good for the win on 80 minutes when they were 2-0 up. A late United rally snatched a point however when goals from Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic denied Villa their second home win in a week, with the draw priced at 13/5 before kick-off.
Ashley Young was 9/1 to score first and he converted a penalty on 72 minutes after a host of chances had been missed by the young Villa team who dominated the Red Devils for long periods of the game. Marc Albrighton made it 2-0 four minutes later when he turned in Stewart Downing`s excellent cross, and Villa then looked to close out the 2-0 win which was 22/1 for Villa before kick-off. But Federico Macheda gave United a lifeline on 81 as he smashed in from the edge of the box, and Vidic completed the comeback on 85 when he headed in at the back post.
The 2-2 draw was 16/1 before kick-off and it is sixth draw away from home from seven games for United - although they are the only team left in the Premier League not to have lost a game. But with Arsenal winning on Sunday away at Everton, United`s draw means they have slipped below the Gunners into third, three points off Chelsea at the top, who also slipped up at home to Sunderland.
United are second favourites to win the title at 7/2 with Bet365 and Betfred, behind favourites Chelsea who are best-priced at 5/6 with Victor Chandler, and marginally in front of third-favourites Arsenal at 4/1 with Blue Square and Bodog.
Aston Villa lie in 9th this week, and are 8/15 with Betfair to finish in the top ten this season, and 4/1 on Betfair to finish in the top six, which is only two points away from them at this moment.
