Premier League betting odds - City cut for title after win over Liverpool

Manchester City saw their odds of winning the Premier League title cut from 10/1 (bet £10 to win £100 profit) to 7/1 with most bookmakers after a deserved 3-0 win over Liverpool at Eastlands on Monday. After a summer of vast expenditure in the transfer market, Roberto Mancini was able to ease some of the fears that it would take too long for his side to gel for them to make a serious challenge at the top of the table. Bookmakers Stan James, however, would not have been best pleased with the result, as they have offered to refund all losing outright bets if City go on to win the Premier League.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have been pushed out to 28/1 with Betfred after going into the game at 16/1. The imminent departure of Javier Macherano, whose defensive metal was clearly missing from the Merseysiders last night, is something Liverpool will struggle to deal with, and they are now 2/1 with Betfred to even regain the Champions League place that a club of their standing demands.
Defending Champions Chelsea, who began their season with back-to-back 6-0 wins over very weak sides, are now clear favourites to regain the title, with most bookmakers offering odds of 5/4. Chelsea broke the Premier League record for goals scored in a season last term and should be stronger this time aroud, with the return of Michael Essien after a long injury lay-off and the signing of Brazil midfielder Ramires from Benfica.
Some pundits believe it could be a two-horse race for the title this season, and Manchester United are second-favourites, generally available at 5/2. They have a strong squad with plenty of depth, and a manger who knows how to win titles and has seen it all. If Dimitar Berbatov can find the form he showed at Tottenham and Wayne Rooney can recover from a poor World Cup, they will not be far behind off the pace.
Arsenal always seem to promise so much and fail to deliver, as their five-season trophy drought shows. The Gunners have finally signed another forward and appear to have strengthened their defence, but there is definite concern over their goalkeepers and whether the youthful squad has the mental toughness to sustain a challenge against their more experienced rivals. They are available at 6/1 with Victor Chandler.
William Gallas left Arsenal this summer as part of their defensive re-shuffle and signed for north London rivals Tottenham, and he claims his new team can win the title. The bookmakers, however, seem to think it is unlikely, and they are as long as 47/1 on Betfair. Spurs finished fourth last season and not only have the sides that finished above them strengthened over the summer, but this campaign they will have to spread their squad more thinly as they compete in the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Everton and Aston Villa follow Tottenham in the betting, but neither are given much hope of a title challenge, at 299/1 and 499/1 respectively on Betfair.
