London- Tottenham are favourites to beat Manchester City today in the opening game of the Premier League season. The two were separated by only three points and a goal difference of two as they battled for a Champions League spot. The North Londoners are 29/20 (bet £20 to win £29 profit) on Betfair, with City underdogs at 9/4 in the same place and the draw at 12/5 with Stan James, Victor Chandler and Boylesports.
Eight of the last ten matches between the two sides have seen more than 2.5 goals and it is 21/20 on Betfair that we get at least that many today, with Extrabet offering 10/11 on a slightly lower-scoring affair.
Today`s teams seem pretty evenly matched and the bookmakers have made a 1-1 draw the favourite score for the match, with Boylesports and William Hill offering 6/1. 1-0 to Spurs is 9/1 on Betfair and the same price is available on 2-1 with Sky Bet and Blue Square. A 1-0 away win is 11/1 on Betfair and an emphatic 3-0 win for Spurs, the score last time the sides met at White Hart Lane, is 33/1 on the exchange.
Jermain Defoe and Carlos Tevez are 6/1 joint-favourites to open the scoring today, with Sky Bet for Defoe and with most bookmakers for Tevez. Emmanuel Adebayor, who enjoyed an excellent start to last season, is 13/2 generally and Peter Crouch is 15/2 with Paddy Power.
Spurs are 7/2 on Betfair to lead today at both half-time and full-time and 11/2 to win after drawing at half-time. Stan James offer 5/1 that both halves are drawn, while Victor Chandler have City/City at the same price.
City`s huge spending spree is unlikely to be finished yet and bookmakers believe that they will be a force in the Premier League this season, making them fourth-favourites at 7/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes. Spurs, who finished fourth last term, are 40/1 with Bet 365 and Ladbrokes.
