Premier League Top Goalscorer betting odds - Rooney and Drogba to battle it out again

Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba are joint-favourites to finish as Premier League top goalscorer this season. The pair were level going into the final day of the season but Drogba came out on top, hitting a hat-trick as Chelsea thrashed Wigan 8-0 to take the title. Both players are generally available at 11/2 (bet £20 to win £110 profit) to top-score this season and the personal battle could go either way this season.
However, one thing that could cause punters to lean towards Drogba is the fact that, while both players missed part of the season through injury, the Ivorian spent a further month on International duty in Africa. He will not have that interruption this time around. Also, while Rooney played as a lone striker for much of last season, the return of Michael Owen and the addition of Javier Hernandez mean he may have to share more of his goals around the team.
Fernando Torres is next in the betting at 8/1 with Stan James after a disappointing campaign with Spain at the World Cup from which he returned injured. He is, however, still one of the planet`s greatest strikers and his record of 56 goals in 79 Liverpool matches is hard to argue with.
Robin van Persie may not be injured right now but with his desperate record it seems unlikely he can amass enough games to finish as top-scorer. His price of 11/1 on Betfair does not seem long enough and a better bet might be Carlos Tevez, at 14/1 with Betfred, after the prolific season he enjoyed last year and his impressive World Cup displays this summer.
Further down in the betting are the consistently prolific Darren Bent, who managed 24 goals last season, at 20/1 Bet 365, Paddy Power and Victor Chandler. Nicholas Anelka is 33/1 on Betfair and he did finish as top goalscorer in the 2008-2009 season, while Marouane Chamakh, Arsenal`s newly signed forward from Bordeaux, is 25/1 with most bookmakers.
An interesting long shot may be Everton`s Louis Saha, who is priced at 59/1 on Betfair and has a decent striker rate in the Premier League, with 100 goals in 260 appearances for Fulham, Manchester United and Everton.
