Premiership football 2010-2011 betting preview

The Premiership fixture list has been announced and we now know that Chelsea will begin the defence of their title against newly-promoted West Brom. The holders are 13/8 (bet £80 to win £130 profit) favourites with Coral to win a fifth title next season and 1/6 to kick it off with a win over the Baggies.
Chelsea broke the Premier League record for goals scored last term and while they have lost Michael Ballack and Joe Cole, they will surely bring in more than suitable replacements. They face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on the 18th of December in what will surely be a crucial game as the season reaches the half-way stage.
United will be the biggest threat to the Champions, according to the bookmakers, with Bet365 and Sky Bet offering 9/4 on last season`s runners-up. Alex Ferguson`s side also begin the season against a newly-promoted team, facing Newcastle at Old Trafford. They are 2/9 for that match, again with Bet365 and Sky Bet, and will be desperate not to drop points in their opening fixture.
United`s mega-rich cross-town rivals, Manchester City, are next in the betting at 7/1. After coming up just short of a Champions League place last season, City will invest heavily in new players this summer to finally try and justify the vast sums they have already spent trying to join Europe`s elite clubs.
Arsenal are clearly not the force they once were and the fact that they are now fourth favourites, at 8/1 with 888sport and Bluesquare, for the Premier League shows this better than anything. New signings, especially at the defensive end of the pitch, are clearly needed but the possible loss of Cesc Fabregas and questions over the funds available to Arsene Wenger will have punters swerving the Gunners this season.
However, there is a team from North London that could offer some value. Tottenham made a huge leap forward last season by finishing fourth and earning Champions League football. Spurs have money and can now attract the world`s best players, and with the right signings over the summer they could surely at least mount a credible challenge at 50/1.
The new season gets under way on the 14th of August and it will surely be one to savour.
