Premier League newcomers Blackpool look set for a speedy return to the Championship as the bookmakers make them clear favourites for relegation this season, with Paddy Power offering only 3/10 (bet £10 to win £3 profit) that the Bloomfield Road side finish in the bottom three.
Three of the last four sides promoted via the play-off have been relegated in their first season in the top-flight and Blackpool`s side, assembled extremely cheaply, look weaker than many we have seen. Newcastle and West Brom are both a class above them, as the Championship table showed, and it is difficult to see how they can survive without significant investment this summer.
West Brom are seen as the next most likely team for the drop, with 888sport, Ladbrokes and Bluesquare all offering evens. The Baggies are a `yo-yo` side, constantly being relegated and promoted, and their team is full of experience. They finished bottom of the Premier League in 2009 but were only three points from safety and will definitely believe they can stay up this time around.
Wolves enjoyed a good first season back in the top flight in 09-10 but they do not have the financial strength of many teams in the league, revealing their fairly low ambitions by signing the likes of Steven Fletcher from Burnley and Steven Mouyokolo from Hull this summer. They are 9/4 to return to the Championship and will need to hope young players such as Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis can step up if they are to be saved.
Wigan Athletic and West Ham finished two and three points respectively behind Wolves and they both look like they could have a tough time of it this season. Wigan are only slightly longer than the Midlands club, at 5/2 with Ladbrokes, while West Ham, under new ownership, are 5/1.
An interesting outsider for the drop is Fulham. Fulham are 10/1 and despite their incredible run in the Europa League, they were average in the Premier League. Roy Hodgson, credited with much of their success, looks likely to leave to manage Liverpool, and without him the West Londoners could find themselves at the wrong end of the table.
The 2010-2011 season kicks off on Saturday the 14th of  August.
